Email notifications provide direct link to renew car tags online

OKLAHOMA CITY – January 9, 2018 – The Oklahoma Tax Commission (OTC) recently simplified the tag renewal process and improved email reminders for CARS.ok.gov (Convenient Auto Renewal System) tag renewal system.

Taxpayers can sign up to receive email reminders when their vehicle registration is due. Such reminders will now include a direct link to the recipient’s vehicle record, to facilitate easy renewal through the CARS.ok.gov system. This link reduces the amount of time and effort it takes to renew a vehicle registration by directing owners immediately to their vehicle record for a quick and easy renewal process. Taxpayers can streamline their online tag renewal by signing up today for emailed reminders from CARS.ok.gov.

CARS.ok.gov now has a more streamlined process, incorporating a direct link to the taxpayer’s vehicle within emailed registration renewal reminders. We believe this will make web renewal a simpler process for those taxpayers choosing online vehicle registration via CARS.ok.gov and we hope to continue to add enhancements to the system to benefit taxpayers,” said Joe Lunn, Motor Vehicle Division Director, Oklahoma Tax Commission. “We urge taxpayers to sign up for emailed vehicle registration renewal reminders from CARS.ok.gov.”

Oklahomans can use CARS.ok.gov, if they:

  • Renew a tag for a noncommercial (automobiles, noncommercial/non-farm trucks, motorcycles, travel trailers, motor homes) or commercial (15,000 pounds or less laden weight) vehicle, that is not more than 10 months delinquent.
  • Renew a tag for a farm truck weighing (truck + load carried or pulled) 55,000 pounds or less, that is not more than 10 months delinquent.
  • Have a valid credit/debit card or a checking account to pay for the renewal.
  • Have insurance information ready, or are declaring a non-use vehicle.
  • Have a driver's license number (if individual) or FEI number (if other than an individual).
  • Have a printer connected to a computer to print the receipt and/or provide a valid email address to have the receipt sent to that account.

CARS.ok.gov was developed in partnership with the Oklahoma Tax Commission and Oklahoma Interactive, LLC. Oklahoma Interactive operates under a self-funded model, in which no additional tax dollars are used to develop or maintain this application.
