Oklahoma Women Veterans to Gather in Oklahoma City
OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs will host the 27th annual Oklahoma Women Veterans Recognition Day on Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 1815 S. Meridian Ave., in Oklahoma City.
The event is a joint venture for the state and federal Veterans Affairs departments and is one of the largest women veterans outreach programs in Oklahoma. The 2011 program co-chairs are US. Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. (ret.) Pam Bloustine and U.S. Army Reserves Master Sgt. (Ret.) Phyllis Dorough-Barker.
This year’s program features a variety of speakers including: U.S. Air Force Major General (Ret.) Rita Aragon, Oklahoma secretary of military and veterans affairs; Dr. Patricia Hayes, chief consultant for the Women Veterans Health Strategic Health Care Group at the Department of Veterans Affairs; and Brigadier General (Ret.) Wilma Vaught, president of the Women’s Memorial Foundation in Washington, D.C.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and guests are invited to attend a social hour before the main program begins at 9:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided. The event is free to all women veterans and female active duty, reserve and guard members. Guests will be charged $10 to attend.
Additionally, there will be an evening reception on Friday, Oct. 28, at the Embassy Suites Hotel from 6 to 9 p.m.
